Perceptions of Risk

NB! LAST-MINUTE CHANGE OF VENUE TO PANUM, 22.3.15

About

Risk perception may be briefly characterized as “the judgements people make when they are asked to characterize and evaluate hazardous activities and technologies” (Slovic).

In this lecture an overview of research into risk perception will be given, devoting most of the review to psychometric approaches which are designed to answer questions about why various activities and hazards are viewed differently as well as identifying demographic differences (age, gender, nationality, profession etc.)

The approach to modelling and explaining differences in risk perception based on the so-called 'Cultural Theory' will also be described and exemplified.

Lecturer
